Laos Dam Spillway Midday Water Flow in along concrete walls above turbulent water in Laos

Laos Dam Spillway Midday Water Flow

by Grace Armstrong

Hard midday sun strikes the massive concrete dam wall, turning the surface into a pale, blinding expanse that contrasts with the deep shadows beneath the overhang. Turbulent white water crashes over the spillway edge, churning violently as it descends into the chasm below. Steel cables stretch taut across the upper structure, their metallic sheen catching the glare. The wet season air is visible in the mist rising from the frothing torrent, blurring the boundary between the solid wall and the chaotic flow. Wind whips the spray into a fine haze that rests on the rough concrete texture. A thick cable anchor bolted into the stone holds firm against the rushing force. at the edge is a single rivulet of water tracing a dark path down the weathered gray surface.
