Misty Dam Spillway in Copper Light in beside a hydroelectric intake near Ndola

Misty Dam Spillway in Copper Light

by Kane Duran

Thick mist rests on the wet concrete face of the dam wall, softening the hard civic lines of the structure. Copper-toned light from the late afternoon sun reflects off the churning water cascading over the spillway. Heavy flows surge down the slope, creating a frothy white ribbon against the gray stone. Droplets hang in the air, blurring the distant intake towers into indistinct shapes. The water's surface ripples with violent energy, while the concrete edges remain sharp and imposing. A fine spray rises from the impact zone, catching the fading light in a haze of silver and orange. The spillway's edge cuts a straight, severe line across the frame, at the base of the chaotic motion of the wet season flood.
