Gansu Flood Barrier Tower at Amber Sunset

Rich amber sunset light floods the concrete face of a flood barrier stair tower, highlighting the rough texture of weathered gray stone against the sky. The structure rises from a windy overpass interchange in Gansu, where low-hanging clouds press down on the horizon. Below, the estuary churns with whipped chop, its whitecaps catching the fading golden rays. Converging lines of the overpass railings and barrier walls guide toward a distant vanishing point, showing the monumentality of the infrastructure. Early winter leaves the ground bare, with dry, brown grasses clinging to the embankment edges. The heavy concrete steps cast deep, sharp shadows that stretch across the walkway, ending in a final line of frosted metal railing against the turbulent water.
