Hydrophone Array Descending Into Steel Blue Water

Steel-blue water fills the lower half of the frame, its surface rippled by a gentle current under a sky heavy with low-hanging clouds. A complex hydrophone array hangs vertically from a research vessel, its metallic cables and sensors disappearing into the dark depths. Above, the observatory dome near Jinan sits in silhouette, its curved roof catching faint starlight and the subtle orange glow of ground illumination. The night is deep, and the water reflects the pale silver of the clouds. Symmetrical lines guide the eye from the vessel's deck down through the water, ending at the submerged sensors where the steel cables vanish into the blue. One reflection of a distant star glimmers on the water's edge.
