Floating Observatory Deck Blue Hour Drizzle in beside a tidal survey transect in Nebraska

Floating Observatory Deck Blue Hour Drizzle

by Brock Francis

Sterile white light spills across a metallic observatory deck where late spring drizzle creates a slick sheen on the steel grating. In the deep shadow of the blue hour, gravity has partially surrendered. A brass compass, a leather-bound logbook, and a cluster of glass vials hover at eye level, suspended in midair without support. Rim light slices through the falling rain, outlining the floating objects against the dark Nebraska horizon. Water droplets rest on the rim of a floating beaker, refracting the harsh white glow. The scientific instruments remain perfectly still, defying the downward pull that governs the rain falling past them. one drop of water rests on the edge of a floating glass vial, catching the light.
