Otter Diving Tidal Inlet Memphis Early Summer in beside a tidal inlet near Memphis

Otter Diving Tidal Inlet Memphis Early Summer

by Bryan Norton

Dark, sleek fur glistens wet against the pale, milky water of a tidal inlet near Memphis. The otter cuts through the surface in a tight close-up, its body streamlined and submerged except for a ripple of disturbance trailing behind. Soft, overcast light from an early summer noon flattens shadows, revealing the texture of water droplets clinging to the dense coat. Fine sea spray hangs suspended in the air around the animal, catching the diffuse glow. The water is calm but churns slightly where the creature enters. One dark eye peers forward with focused intent, framed by the immediate splash of the dive. Ripples spread outward in perfect concentric circles from the point of entry.
