Kerala Tide Pools Noon Low Tide View

by Garrett Ortiz

Hard noon light flattens the coastal surface of Kerala, turning shallow rock pools into glassy blue mirrors suspended in a grid of dark stone. The water holds fine suspended particles that glitter like scattered diamonds against the deep azure floor. Cool season air leaves the wet rocks slick and dark, against the bright, bleached coral and barnacle clusters clinging to the edges. From a direct overhead angle, the pools form irregular geometric shapes, separated by jagged basalt ridges. Tiny ripples disturb the perfect stillness only near the edges where the tide retreats. A cluster of orange sea anemones folds tightly against the rock bottom, its color sharp against the blue water.
