Fireflies in Misty Bamboo Under Cold Starlight in under a band of cold starlight near Kingston

Fireflies in Misty Bamboo Under Cold Starlight

by Corinne Drake

Cold starlight cuts a sharp band across the night, illuminating a dense grove of bamboo stalks standing tall and slender. Thin mist rests on the ground, catching the beam to create a luminous haze that softens the dark green leaves. Tiny fireflies drift through the illuminated column, their amber glows punctuating the blue-white light. The air appears exceptionally clear, allowing the distant stars to shine with crisp definition against the black sky. Stalks rise vertically, their smooth nodes reflecting the cool beam, while the glowing insects move in slow, drifting arcs. A faint reflection of a single firefly glimmers on a wet bamboo leaf in the foreground.
