Flashlight Beam Cuts Fog Dark Forest in across a storm-bright plain near Adelaide

Flashlight Beam Cuts Fog Dark Forest

by Georgia Witt

Humid air hangs heavy over a storm-bright plain near Adelaide, where late-night shadows swallow the ground. One flashlight beam pierces the darkness, its white light scattering against thick fog that rests on the eucalyptus trunks. The beam creates a sharp cone of visibility against the deep black of the surrounding forest. Damp leaves glisten with recent rain, reflecting faint rim light along their edges. The light source sits low, illuminating patches of wet grass and muddy tracks that fade into the void. Tall trees stand as dark silhouettes on either side of the illuminated path. The beam ends abruptly where the fog thickens, leaving the rest of the landscape in absolute obscurity. one drop of water slides down a nearby fern frond.
