Fig Roots Splitting Ruined Greenhouse Nave in in a derelict ward with shattered glass underfoot in England

Fig Roots Splitting Ruined Greenhouse Nave

by Kaylee Cameron

North light floods a derelict greenhouse nave, illuminating thick fig roots that split the tiled floor and push through shattered glass shards. Mounds of black soil rise across the broken roof tiles, against the pale, weathered stone frame. Late spring greenery peeks through the gaps in the structure, while the clean surfaces of the remaining walls remain uncluttered. The frame-within-a-frame effect draws toward the central rupture where earth and architecture collide. Fine dust settles on the jagged edges of the broken panes, catching the soft daylight. One root tip presses against a remaining glass fragment, creating a sharp line of tension between the organic and the broken.
