Fig Tree Strangling Ruin Under Snow and Sun in along a vine-choked corridor in Queensland

Fig Tree Strangling Ruin Under Snow and Sun

by Mackenzie Nieves

Thick fig roots wrap tightly around crumbling stone blocks in a Queensland corridor choked with vines. The night is split down the middle. On the left, heavy snow accumulates on the mossy ruins and hangs from the twisted branches, creating a stark white layer against the dark bark. On the right, bright sunshine floods the same stones, revealing wet textures and deep shadows cast by the foliage. A fine fog rests on the ground, blurring the boundary between the frozen and the illuminated sections. The leading lines of the vine-covered walls draw toward the center where the tree and stone merge. One flake rests on a jagged stone edge, against the dry, sunlit dust nearby.
