Elephant calf mud play at Tajikistan ridge

Cold silver dawn light washes over a wind-scoured ridge in Tajikistan, illuminating a small elephant calf wallowing in a muddy waterhole. Late summer heat contrasts with the chill of the morning as brief rain droplets fall across the dark, churned earth. The calf stands near the edge of the frame, its gray skin glistening with wet mud and scattered water. Surrounding the waterhole, dry scrub grass bends under the weight of the wind, while the sky above holds the pale, diffused glow of nautical dawn. A shallow pool reflects the pale sky, and the calf's trunk rests low against the slick surface. Mud rests on the calf's legs, marking the ground where it has stepped and splashed.
