Dugong Grazing Seagrass in Hokkaido Spring

Sunlight falls through a thin layer of plankton haze, casting a diffuse glow over the underwater channel. A large dugong moves slowly through the water, its gray skin marked with subtle scratches and barnacles. The animal's snout presses into the dense bed of green seagrass, pulling up long, ribbon-like fronds. Bubbles rise from its blowhole, drifting upward in the calm, rain-washed water. The clarity near the subject fades into a soft blue mist at the edges of the frame. Sunlight dapples the sandy bottom, illuminating individual blades of grass that sway gently in the current. A small cluster of orange algae clings to a rock near the dugong's tail.
