Dragonfly Eye Macro Closeup Taoyuan
by Corey Potts
Copper-toned candlelight washes over the compound eye of a dragonfly, filling the entire frame with its intricate hexagonal facets. The subject rests on rough, lichen-covered bark, the green and grey textures of the lichen providing a soft, organic backdrop to the insect's glossy surface. Muted reflections shimmer faintly along the lower edge where the light catches the dampness of the wood. Each ommatidium acts as a tiny mirror, showing the warm glow of the candle in sharp, distinct points. The midsummer air is still, allowing the fine hairs along the eye's rim to remain perfectly visible against the dark, shadowed crevices of the bark. The composition centers the eye completely, turning the biological structure into a landscape of amber and gold.
