Honeybee Tongue Unfurling on Lichen Bark

Pale, diffuse light from high windows washes the scene, revealing the intricate mechanics of a honeybee's proboscis extending toward a drop of nectar. The tongue, a translucent ribbon of amber and white, curls with delicate tension against the rough texture of lichen-covered bark. Tiny, crystalline highlights glint off the polished surface of the droplet and the smooth segments of the insect's head. The bark itself is a mosaic of gray, green, and ochre patches, showing the wear of Cabinda's humid turn of seasons. Fine hairs on the bee's body catch the soft illumination, creating a halo of soft fuzz around the sharp, dark eye.
