Forsaken Colonial Church Ruin in Copper Light

by Carole Sampson

Copper-toned light washes over the skeletal remains of a colonial church beneath a broken stone arch near San-Pédro. Dry, cracked earth surrounds the structure while a light drizzle beads on the surfaces of termite-hollowed wooden beams. The timbers, stripped of their protective skin, reveal a labyrinth of internal tunnels and pale, splintered cores. Raindrops slide slowly down the darkened stone masonry, highlighting the rough texture of the crumbling walls. Faint embers from a nearby fire cast a warm, flickering glow that contrasts with the cool gray of the wet stones. One, jagged beam leans precariously against the arch, its shadow stretching long across the muddy ground.
