Crumbling Theater Ruin with Velvet Stalls in among toppled columns and nettles near Opole

Crumbling Theater Ruin with Velvet Stalls

by Faith Ramirez

Bright midmorning light floods the wide panoramic expanse of a theater facade reduced to rubble near Opole. Torn strips of deep red velvet hang from the decayed stalls, their frayed edges catching the humid air left after rain. Toppled stone columns lie scattered among thick patches of green nettles that have surged through the cracked pavement. The white plaster of the remaining arches contrasts sharply with the dark, wet earth and the vibrant, wet green of the vegetation. Water droplets rest on the rough stone surfaces and the damp fabric of the torn curtains. A jagged piece of blue silk rests on a broken marble step, its color fading under the harsh sun.
