Dawn Mist Over Fort Ruin Reclaimed by Yellow Broom

by Alison McKinney

Pale morning light falls through a thin layer of mist, softening the rough textures of crumbling stone walls that frame a grassy courtyard. Vibrant yellow broom plants cascade over the upper parapets, their delicate stems against the grey masonry. Tall green grasses fill the open space between the ruins, swaying slightly under the weight of morning dew. The sky above is a flawless, pale blue, visible through the broken archways. A long shadow stretches across the uneven ground, cast by a leaning stone pillar. The texture of the moss clinging to the lower stones is sharp and green against the weathered rock.
