Ivy-Covered Castle Ruins at Dawn in Chubu in among collapsed cloisters in Chubu

Ivy-Covered Castle Ruins at Dawn in Chubu

by Carla Cole

Thick green ivy and patches of moss swallow the crumbling stone walls of an ancient castle ruin in Chubu. The sky glows with a pale, watery light as the sun touches the horizon haze, casting long shadows across the collapsed cloisters. Damp air hangs visibly heavy between the rough, weathered stones, condensing on the cold surfaces. Late summer foliage rests on the broken arches, softening the sharp edges of the masonry. The wide panoramic view reveals the scale of abandonment, where nature reclaims the structure stone by stone. One patch of bright green moss contrasts against the dark, wet gray of the shattered foundation near the foreground.
