Winter Spray on Ancient Himachal Bastion Ruins

by Brandon Copeland

Late autumn light bathes the crumbling stone bastion of a Himachal Pradesh fort in a warm, golden glow. The roofless chambers stand exposed against a perfectly clear sky, their weathered surfaces textured by centuries of wind and water. Fine winter spray rests on the upper edges of the masonry, catching the firelight warmth of the setting sun and creating a shimmering veil over the gray rock. Moss patches in muted greens and browns rest on the lower walls, while deep shadows pool inside the empty doorways. The dry, brittle grass at the base of the structure sways slightly in the cold air, framing the ancient stonework. A thin line of frost traces the jagged edge of a broken archway, marking the transition between the warm light and the encroaching winter chill.
