Dawn Fog Over Bamenda Coastal Fort Ruins in among toppled columns and nettles near Bamenda

Dawn Fog Over Bamenda Coastal Fort Ruins

by Bernadette Skinner

Low sunlight cuts through thick monsoon fog, illuminating the horizon where the sky meets the sea. Weathered stone cannons point seaward from a crumbling fortification, their surfaces rough with age and dampness. Green nettles climb the broken masonry, weaving through gaps in the gray stone. Toppled columns lie scattered on the wet ground, their broken ends covered in moss. The air hangs heavy with moisture, visible as a pale haze softening the distant landscape. Light reflects off the damp earth, highlighting the texture of decaying rock against the vibrant green of the encroaching vegetation. One crack in the stone wall holds a small pool of rainwater.
