Ottoman Caravanserai Ruins in Minnesota Dawn Mist
by Julius Mata
Early spring light falls through a roofless Ottoman caravanserai structure standing incongruously in a Minnesota clearing. The courtyard remains open to the sky, where damp, misty air settles heavily among the weathered stones. Arched openings and crumbling masonry define the space, with moss creeping up the lower walls and small green shoots pushing through cracks in the ancient floor. Leading lines formed by the remaining stone pathways guide the gaze toward the center of the open courtyard. The soft, diffused dawn illumination casts long, gentle shadows across the uneven surfaces, highlighting the texture of the eroded brickwork and the vibrant new growth of wild grasses reclaiming the historic space. A thin layer of moisture glistens on the lowest stone steps.
