Copper Light Traces Carved Columns in Bouake Church
Low sun streams through the open prayer hall of a rock-hewn church in Bouaké, painting the rough-hewn stone columns in deep copper tones. Thick, wet-season clouds hang low outside the arched openings, diffusing the sky into a soft gray backdrop. The light cuts across the floor, tracing long, sharp shadows that stretch between the carved pillars and the smooth stone walls. Dust motes float in the beams, visible against the dark recesses of the archway. The texture of the rock shows deep grooves from the chisel, against the polished wear on the central floor. A heavy wooden door frame in the foreground creates a natural border, focusing the view on the solitary column standing in the fading gold light. The shadow of the arch falls across the wet stone floor, ending at the base of the pillar.
