Sun flare through doorway arch Mali dawn

by Amanda Lucero

Raw, dusty light spills through a rough-hewn archway carved from laterite earth, illuminating the mist hanging heavy in the humid air. The doorway frames a bright burst of morning sun that pierces the grey haze of a clearing storm. Thick, weathered walls show deep erosion and cracks filled with dark soil, their texture coarse and uneven under the soft dawn glow. Wet patches on the packed earth floor reflect the sudden brightness, against the dry, crumbling plaster. A silhouette of a figure stands just inside the threshold, their outline sharp against the blinding white flare. The light catches floating dust particles, turning the mist into a shimmering curtain that softens the gritty edges of the adobe structure. A thin line of golden dust settles on the wet threshold.
