Ionic columns at Sukkur museum entrance

by Julius Hammond

Pale stone Ionic capitals fill the frame, their volutes carved with precision against the diffused midday light. Broad skylight washes over the surfaces, bouncing softly off the surrounding walls to create a flat, even illumination. The monsoon season leaves the floor slick with moisture, generating muted, distorted reflections of the columns that stretch across the polished stone. Dust motes hang suspended in the bright shafts, caught in the stillness of the indoor space. A dark shadow falls sharply along the base of the nearest column, marking the boundary between the wet floor and the dry architectural detail.
