Carved Columns in Rock Church Interior

by Anne Larsen

Late afternoon light pours through high windows into a prayer hall carved directly from stone. Rough-hewn columns rise from the floor, their surfaces textured with chisel marks that catch the crisp, high-altitude glow. The air holds a fine mist from the light drizzle outside, visible as a soft haze against the dark rock walls. Wooden pews line the aisle, their surfaces worn smooth by generations of use. A small group of people stands near the altar, their dark clothing against the pale stone. The light reflects off the damp floor, creating a shimmering path toward the back of the hall. Dust motes float in the sunbeams, settling gently on the carved capitals.
