Capybara in Reed Bed After Rain in at the edge of a reed bed in Ecuador

Capybara in Reed Bed After Rain

by Todd Bauer

Wet reeds stand tall along the muddy bank of an Ecuadorian waterway, their green stalks heavy with recent rain. A large capybara sits submerged in the warm water, its dark brown fur slick and glistening under the soft late morning sky. The animal faces away, its broad back creating a solid silhouette against the shimmering heat haze that rises from the surface. Droplets rest on the coarse hair along its spine, catching the light. Behind the creature, the water ripples gently, distorting the reflection of the reeds. One droplet rolls from a wet leaf tip onto the animal's shoulder.
