Wombat Silhouette Emerging Reed Bed Bali
by Zoe McLeod
Hard coastal glare cuts through steady rain, turning the sky into a sheet of bright white behind a dark, furry shape. A wombat emerges from the mud at the edge of a dense reed bed, its form reduced to a heavy, rounded silhouette. Raindrops streak vertically against the intense light, catching on the wet fur of the animal and the tall, green stalks of the reeds. The ground is churned and slick with water, reflecting the pale sky in small, broken patches. The animal pauses mid-step, muscles coiled in patient stillness. Behind the dark figure, the reeds stand rigid, their tips drooping under the weight of the water. one drop of water rests on the tip of a reed stalk just above the wombat's back. The contrast between the deep black of the animal and the blinding white sky creates a sharp, graphic boundary.
