Beaver Swimming with Branch Near Aragon Reeds

Flat noon light bleaches the water surface into a sheet of pale silver, reflecting a cloudless sky. A beaver glides through the shallows, its dark wet fur against the dry, tan stalks of the reed bed lining the bank. The animal holds a sturdy branch horizontally in its paws, the wood floating just above the ripples. The water moves with a smooth, silent push from the beaver's hind legs. Sunlight strikes the reed tips, turning them into sharp, golden spikes against the cool blue of the open water. Small ripples fan out from the submerged body, breaking the mirror-like surface only in the immediate wake. The beaver's eyes remain level with the water, scanning the reed line ahead.
