Cape Buffalo at Sololaki Waterhole Reed Bed
by Serena Silva
A Cape buffalo stands knee-deep in the murky water of a small pool, its dark, wet hide glistening under the soft, overcast sky. The animal faces left, its curved horns resting near the surface, while heat haze shimmers visibly above the water, blurring the distant reed bed. Thick green and dried brown stalks frame the animal on both sides, creating a natural window that isolates the subject against the hazy background. The dry season is evident in the sparse, brittle grass along the bank and the dusty texture of the mud. Sunlight breaks through the clouds in patches, illuminating the steam rising from the water and highlighting the rough texture of the buffalo's shoulder. The water reflects the gray sky and the vertical lines of the reeds, ending with a close-up of a single reed tip bending under the weight of a water droplet.
