Blue Sea Star on Volcanic Rock in Evening Light in through open water with long shafts of light near Bishkek

Blue Sea Star on Volcanic Rock in Evening Light

by Khalid Collier

Honeyed evening light falls through the water column, creating vertical shafts that illuminate a vibrant blue sea star draped across a jagged volcanic rock. The starfish texture appears rough and porous, against the smooth, dark stone beneath it. Fine plankton haze softens the background, diffusing the horizon glow that wraps around the edges of the frame. Shallow depth of field keeps the creature in sharp focus while the distant water dissolves into a misty blue-green blur. Tiny particles float in the current, catching the golden rays as they drift past the subject. The scene rests on the uneven surface of the rock, where shadows pool in the crevices between the stone and the marine life.
