Anvil Cloud Spreads Over Xiamen Monsoon Storms

by Aubrey Bravo

Soft, diffused light after rain illuminates a massive anvil cloud spreading horizontally across the tropopause. Below, a stacked wall of thunderheads rises with dark, turbulent textures against a perfectly clear blue sky. The horizon line near Xiamen shows the base of these towering storms in deep charcoal and slate gray tones. A diagonal composition cuts through the frame, creating tension between the spreading white ice crystals above and the churning dark masses below. The anvil's smooth, fibrous edges contrast sharply with the rough, billowing undersides of the thunderheads. Sunlight catches the upper rim of the cloud formation, highlighting its vast, flat expanse while the lower sections remain in shadow.
