Amber Fire Coral on Reef Crest Underwater

Suspended particles glitter like fine dust in the water column, catching the midday sun filtered through the surface above. Bright amber fire coral colonies cluster tightly along the reef crest, their porous surfaces glowing against the shadowed underside of a nearby ledge. The light shifts from a pale turquoise near the surface to deeper greens and blues in the foreground, where monsoon turbulence keeps the water slightly cloudy. Tiny bubbles adhere to the coral tips, and the shallow depth of field blurs the distant reef floor into a soft wash of teal. The coral branches stand rigid, their warm orange hues contrasting sharply with the cool, diffused light that penetrates the shallow tropical shallows near Cebu. A faint shadow stretches beneath the lowest coral tip, at the base of the cluster against the sandy bottom.
