Crumbling Cinder Block Alley Winter Evening in along a market-lined side street in Griffintown, Montreal

Crumbling Cinder Block Alley Winter Evening

by Breanna Patel

Rain-slicked asphalt reflects the warm amber glow of approaching headlights against the cool blue of a winter dusk. A weathered cinder-block wall dominates the foreground, its gray surface fractured and crumbling downward into a narrow back alley. Loose chunks of concrete rest on the wet ground, surrounded by patches of melting slush and gray ice. Dramatic, heavy clouds hang low, pressing against the tops of nearby buildings. The wall stands in stark contrast to the dark, glistening pavement, where water pools around the debris. At the edge of the frame, a puddle mirrors the fragmented texture of the broken masonry.
