Rain Falls Through Ruined Courtyard Near Guwahati

by Chad Perry

Pale twilight settles over a crumbling ceremonial courtyard near Guwahati, where the roof has long since vanished. Rain falls in straight, visible lines through the open sky, striking the moss-slicked stone floor below. Deep shadows pool in the corner archways, while a thin rim of light outlines the jagged edges of broken pillars. Distant city lights begin to glow in the background, casting a soft amber hue against the encroaching darkness of early winter. Vines creep up the weathered masonry, their green leaves stark against the gray stone. The rain creates small ripples in the puddles collecting between the cracked slabs, reflecting the faint glow of the urban horizon beyond the ruins. One drop slides off a crumbling lintel, marking the edge of the stone.
