Rain on Roman Amphitheater Ruins Manitoba in inside a roofless nave in Manitoba

Rain on Roman Amphitheater Ruins Manitoba

by Marjorie Stanley

Orange low-angle light washes over the crumbling stone arches of a roofless nave in Manitoba. Steady rain falls across the uneven ground, darkening the weathered sandstone and creating small rivulets that trace the ancient masonry. The sky remains a heavy gray sheet above the exposed structure, against the warm glow touching the lower walls. Moss rests on the damp crevices between the stones, hinting at the turn of seasons in this northern landscape. Water droplets bead on the rough surface of a fallen pillar fragment resting near the center of the arena floor. The wet earth reflects the fading copper tones of the sky in shallow puddles.
