Whale Shark Through Volcanic Arch in Kashmir

by Phoebe Hunt

A massive whale shark glides horizontally through a rough, dark volcanic rock arch submerged in deep water. Sunlight pierces the surface above, creating dappled patterns of bright white and soft blue that dance across the shark's spotted skin and the porous stone. Suspended particles glitter in the water column, catching the flat glare of noon as they drift around the creature. The water clarity is high, revealing the texture of the rock's jagged edges against the smooth, grey flank of the shark. Tiny ripples distort the light beams just above the rock's summit. The shark's mouth remains closed as it passes through the narrow opening, framed by the dark interior of the arch.
