Virga Curtain Falling Stormy Liberian Plain

by Jackie Franklin

Steel-blue ambient light washes over a vast, open plain in Liberia during the monsoon season. A thick sheet of cirrostratus clouds dominates the upper right third of the sky, from which a distinct curtain of virga descends. The precipitation evaporates before reaching the dry, brown earth below, creating a stark vertical line against the horizon. Dark storm clouds gather on the left, against the lighter, fading evening sky. The ground appears textured with sparse, low vegetation and uneven soil, showing the raw, gritty nature of the landscape. A faint, pale band of light separates the darkening clouds from the flat terrain, highlighting the separation between the falling moisture and the arid ground.
