Silhouetted Maple Leaves Fall in Dry Monsoon Forest in on a fern-lined forest floor near Belgaum

Silhouetted Maple Leaves Fall in Dry Monsoon Forest

by Megan Hoffman

Tropical midday sun pierces through the canopy, casting sharp silhouettes of falling maple leaves against a backdrop of glowing green ferns. The dry season air hangs heavy as fine raindrops catch the intense light, turning the forest floor into a mosaic of wet, dark earth and vibrant fronds. Each leaf hangs suspended in mid-air, its edges glowing with translucent amber and burnt orange hues before dropping toward the shadowed ground. The light creates high contrast, rendering the falling foliage as stark black shapes while illuminating the mist and moisture in the air. Tiny droplets rest on the fern fronds, reflecting the bright sky above. at the edge is a single leaf resting on a wet, glistening leaf of the fern below, its veins outlined in gold.
