Virga Curtain Falls Through Marine Fog at Golden Hour

by Deborah Coleman

A dense sheet of cirrostratus clouds hovers low over the horizon, releasing a faint, evaporating curtain of virga that never touches the ground. Warm golden light from the setting sun washes the sky in amber and soft orange hues, illuminating the texture of the moisture streaks. Below, a thick layer of marine fog blankets the coastal landscape near Malindi, obscuring the sea and creating a seamless white floor. The dry season air allows the light to penetrate the fog, casting long, diffuse shadows across the unseen terrain. Darker cloud formations stack in the distance, against the bright, glowing edges of the virga. The vast emptiness of the scene emphasizes the isolation of the falling water against the pale, foggy expanse.
