Rain slicks the narrow alleyway of the medina, reflecting the neon blue glow of a distant shop sign against the warm ochre of the surrounding stucco walls. Under the canvas awning of a small leather workshop, a tanner works at a stone trough, his hands submerged in indigo dye. A ceramic bowl sits on the edge, holding a wooden pastry brush and a pair of heavy laundry pins used to clamp hides. Scattered flower petals from a nearby vendor drift onto the wet cobblestones, against the threadbare fabric of a cushion left on a nearby bench.
