Traditional Leather Tannery Worker Using Shears in Fez Morocco Late Afternoon Light

A leatherworker stands at a stone basin in the Chouara Tannery, his hands submerged in a vat of reddish dye while holding a pair of heavy tailor shears. The late afternoon sun casts long shadows across the packed earth floor, illuminating the vibrant colors of the dye pits. Around him, stacks of cured hides await treatment, and the geometric zellige tiles of the surrounding buildings frame the scene. Dust hangs in the air, catching the golden light as he trims a piece of leather with practiced precision. The historic medina walls enclose the workspace, at the base of the activity in the ancient craftsmanship of Fez.
