The early evening sun casts long shadows across the Chouara Tannery in Fez, Morocco, illuminating the geometric arrangement of stone vats filled with vibrant indigo, saffron, and crimson dyes. A tanner stands waist-deep in a vat of reddish liquid, using a wooden paddle to agitate the hides submerged within the traditional pits. Nearby, another worker carries a bundle of treated leather on his shoulder, navigating the narrow stone pathways that separate the dyeing basins. The ancient walls of the medina rise steeply in the background, framing the industrial activity below. The enduring craft of leather production, with the colorful liquids reflecting the fading daylight and the surrounding architecture.
