Derelict Cable Car Station New Zealand Dawn in along a switchback approach in New Zealand

Derelict Cable Car Station New Zealand Dawn

by Shirley Yates

Deep shadow swallows the wooden structure of the abandoned cable car station while a thin rim of pre-dawn light outlines the weathered roofline against a darkening sky. Slack cables drape limply from rusted towers, hanging low over a wet, gravel path that reflects the faint grey sky. Late autumn beech leaves, turning brown and brittle, litter the ground and rest on the damp timber beams. A brief sun shower creates a slick sheen on the metal bolts and the corrugated roof, doubling the scene in puddles below. The stillness feels heavy as water drips from the eaves, pooling in the hollows of the floorboards. One rusted bolt catches the faint light, marking the end of the decay.
