Yellow Sulfur Fumarole at Golden Hour in Ecuador

by Paula Hyde

Vibrant yellow sulfur crusts coat the jagged volcanic rock, glowing intensely under the low, warm angle of the setting sun. Wisps of pale steam rise steadily from the fissure, dissolving into the perfectly clear sky above. The foreground displays rough, mineral-stained textures where wind has carved the earth, against the smooth, distant layers of Andean peaks fading into a soft blue haze. Shadows stretch long across the uneven ground, showing the deep crevices filled with crystalline deposits. A thin layer of fine yellow dust settles on the dark volcanic stones near the vent, catching the final light before dusk.
