Stopped Clock in Ghost Town Depot Ruins

by Steven Tapia

Bright midmorning sun cuts through dry air, silhouetting the skeletal remains of a railway depot near Regina. The frame shows a rusted clock face frozen at ten past two, its hands stark against the pale sky. Late autumn strips the surrounding grasslands to brittle gold and brown stalks, while wind whips loose debris across the broken floorboards. Weathered wood beams lean precariously, their surfaces cracked and peeling under the harsh light. Nature creeps in through gaps in the roof, where dried ferns curl against the metal casing. The clock's glass is shattered, leaving jagged edges that catch the glare. One shadow from a bent railing stretches across the dusty threshold.
