Stopped Clock in Syrian Ruin Dawn in through an abandoned ceremonial court near Aleppo

Stopped Clock in Syrian Ruin Dawn

by Colton Melton

Pale morning light spills across the crumbling stone archway of a ceremonial court near Aleppo, illuminating a rusted iron clock mounted on the weathered masonry. The face reads ten past two, frozen in time while the hands show no movement. Early spring shadows stretch long across the fractured floor, where broken tiles and scattered rubble lie in the cool, gray light. Dramatic, heavy clouds loom overhead, casting shifting patches of brightness and deep shadow against the peeling plaster and exposed brickwork. The metal frame of the clock creates a sharp geometric contrast to the organic decay surrounding it, its glass face cracked and filled with dust. One spiderweb rests on the lower rim of the clock casing.
