Rusted Clock on Ghazipur Ruins

by Willa Strickland

Damp air rests on the crumbling stone cloisters near Ghazipur, where early autumn light falls through broken arches. A heavy iron clock face stands upright amidst the debris, its hands frozen permanently at ten past two. The metal surface bears patches of orange rust and dark, wet stains from the recent rain. Water droplets rest on the blackened numerals and the cracked glass, reflecting the pale sky above. Surrounding the mechanism, grey stones and fallen masonry create a chaotic pile, while dried brown leaves scatter across the wet ground. The texture of the corroded metal contrasts sharply with the smooth, rain-slicked surfaces of the ancient blocks. One shadow falls across the lower dial, showing the stillness of the stopped time against the encroaching vegetation.
