Dawn Light on Enugu Depot Clock Ruin in along a vine-choked corridor near Enugu

Dawn Light on Enugu Depot Clock Ruin

by Evan Bruce

Misty dawn light falls through a corridor choked with thick green vines and dry, brittle grasses. An old iron clock hangs suspended on a crumbling stone wall, its hands frozen at ten past two. The metal face is pitted with rust, contrasting against the pale gray of the weathered masonry. Soft, diffused illumination reveals the texture of damp air trapped between the stones and the rough edges of broken bricks. Lush foliage drapes over the upper archway, creeping down to meet the dusty floor. The scene stands still under the pale sky, where the vines weave tightly around the metal casing. One shadow falls across the cracked pavement near the clock's base.
