Flamingo Colony at Dawn on Soda Lake
Pale pink plumage stands out against the deep shadow of a soda lake near Ho Chi Minh City. At first light, a sharp rim of pale dawn outlines the curved necks of the birds. The water surface remains dark and glassy, reflecting only the faint glow of the sky. Distant haze hangs low along the horizon, softening the far bank where reeds stand still. Several flamingos hold their heads high, necks rigid with alert tension. Their webbed feet grip the muddy shore in the foreground, while the shallow depth of field blurs the background into a wash of muted grays and greens. The turn of the season leaves the reeds dry and brittle against the cool morning light.
